KUWAIT HOSPITAL PROJECTS REPORT 2019

With its Vision 2035 program, Kuwait has signaled that it is becoming more open to foreign investment. The plan includes 709 various mega projects with a combined estimated value of USD 230.4 billion. Of the 709 projects, approximately 58% are under construction, indicating a healthy flow-through of project investments. At the same time, newly announced hospital projects in 2019 add to the pipeline of project investments in the country.

It expected the Kuwait healthcare market to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.4% between 2013 and 2018, increasing the total value of the market from $3.5bn to $5.4bn by 2025. In 2018, the outpatient market is forecast to be worth around $3.9bn, or 72%, while the size of the inpatient market is forecast to be worth $1.5bn, or 28%.
 
Healthcare spending remains a priority for the government, Kuwait awarded projects worth $11 billion in the construction of new infrastructure for healthcare, as it seeks to prioritize the transformation of its healthcare sector. In terms of project value, Kuwait accounts for nearly 17% of the total value of upcoming healthcare projects.

Healthcare infrastructure project pipelines in Kuwait

  • Kuwait Cancer Control Center Expansion, Kuwait City  (completed bu 2021) - US$ 596 million - The Kuwait Control Centre for Cancer, located in Al Sabah Medical District, Kuwait City, is an expansion project by the Ministry of Health and the Kuwait Health Assurance Company (KHAC). According to ProTenders, the new 618 bed, the 12-storey building includes all relevant departments essential to a state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility including radiology, surgery, laboratories, pharmacy, physiotherapy, and psychology clinics.

  • New Al Sabah Hospital (completed by 2024) - US$ 635 million - Currently under construction, will cover the area of 88, 000 square meters with a capacity of 671 beds and a multi-story parking area. Requirements: Hospital Infrastructure, Construction, Building Equipment, Medical Equipment & Device, Hospital Furniture

  • Al Amiri Hospital (completed by 2020) - ​With the capacity of 446 beds, buying medical equipment, building outpatient clinics.   • Infectious Diseases Centre, Al Andalus, Kuwait (completed by 2020) - The Infectious Disease Hospital Project consists in the development of multiple facilities consists of 224 beds, service, kitchen, and administrative building and car park. Requirements: Hospital Infrastructure, Construction, Building Equipment, Medical Equipment & Device, Hospital Furniture

  • Ibn Sina Hospital, Al Asimah, Kuwait (completed by 2020) - The proposed 1,450,000 square foot hospital will have approximately twice the inpatient and outpatient capacity of the current facility and will accommodate 500 inpatient beds. Diagnostic and treatment facilities include a 78,000 square foot surgical department with 20 operating theatres, of which two are interventional MR theatres, 16,000 square feet of laboratory space, 18,000 square feet of respiratory and physiotherapy space, and about 64,000 square feet of medical imaging spaces including 4 CT scans, 3 MRI, 3 nuclear medicine rooms, gamma knife, PT scan and simulation facilities. Requirements: Hospital Infrastructure, Construction, Building Equipment, Medical Equipment & Device, Hospital Furniture

Ongoing refurbishing, expansions and recently completed upgrades by MOH (Ministry of Health) – US$ 4.11 billion 

Motivated by its rule in keeping up with the population growth and urban expansion around Kuwait, the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Kuwait signed a KD1.25 billion contract for designing, equipping and maintenance and expansion of mega projects to build public hospitals and health care centres.

  • Al Adnan Hospital Expansion, Hadiya District, Kuwait City, Kuwait (completed by 2025) - US$ 588 million - The Expansion of the Al Adan Hospital provides a new Maternity and Paediatrics healthcare facilities, initiated by the Ministry of Health as part of the Kuwait National Healthcare Development Plan.   • Farwaniya Hospital Expansion, Kuwait City Upgrade, Al Farwaniya (completed on Dec 2019) - US$ 928 million - The hospital includes all specialties, allied medicines, and school health services, dentistry building with 100 specialized clinics, and 30 clinics for school health, 27 operation theatres and 233 ICU beds. Requirements: Medical Equipment & Device, Hospital Furniture

  • Sabah General Hospital Expansion, Al Sabah (completed on July 2019) - US$ 617 million - Al Sabah Hospital is to act as a general secondary care facility providing general and specialised clinical services. It will also support the Al Amiri Hospital in providing general secondary care services to the residents of Capital Governorate. According to the Kuwait Times, the project comprises of the main building with a basement, a ground floor and 12 floors with a 512 bed capacity, in addition to 105 ICU beds. Requirements: Medical Equipment & Device, Hospital Furniture

  • New Al Jahra Hospital, Al Jahra (completed on July 2018) - US$ 1 billion - Kuwait Health Assurance Company (KHAC) signed two contracts, a combined value of KD 165 million with the China Metallurgical Group Corporation to build two hospitals that will be located in the Ahmadi and Jahra areas. KHAC is a PPP (public-private partnership) established in 2014 responsible for providing healthcare services to the expatriate community in Kuwait. Requirements: Medical Equipment & Device, Hospital Furniture

  • Jaber Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Hospital Upgrade, South Suhra (completed on Aug 2018) - This would include 1500 hospital beds, staff and doctor’s residence building, services and power building, engineering workshop, laundry building, medical gas building, groundwater tank, multi-story garage and three-story underground car park building with a capacity of 7000 cars. Requirements: Medical Equipment & Device, Hospital Furniture
